On Monday, LA28 organisers formally asked that flag football for both the men's and women's competitions as well as four other sports be added to the event. It would mark the Olympic debut for flag football, a game that looks similar to tackle football, with passing and receiving, but requires little protective equipment, with play stopping when a defender pulls a cloth flag from the waist of an opponent. "But I will tell you that through this process a number of great young stars of the league have said how great it would be to represent their country and play flag." O'Reilly said one appeal of flag football is that it is low cost and that almost anyone can play it. "The Olympics in LA would be a tremendous boost to flag football around the world and in this country."

The NFL kicks off the first of this season's international games on Sunday at Wembley Stadium in London before the series shifts for the first time to Frankfurt for two games starting Nov. 5. NFL Europe, which began in 1991 with 10 teams, shuttered in 2007 and was replaced by regular season NFL games starting with a contest at Wembley in October 2007. "It may have been back at the very first game at Wembley, but now this is a really educated fanbase." About 82% of tickets sold for two London games at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next month went to fans in the United Kingdom, the NFL said. "There's a pathway to 150 foreign born players in the NFL in the not so distant future," he said.

Five international fixtures will take place over October and November with three in London. Only one regular-season NFL game has ever been staged in Germany, last season's clash between Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Seattle Seahawks in Munich's Allianz Arena. The Frankfurt Stadium will host reigning Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs on Nov. 5 for their game against Miami Dolphins and a week later will welcome Indianapolis Colts and the New England Patriots. "We are... pleased to confirm that the two games in Germany will be played in Frankfurt, a city steeped in NFL heritage. The Jaguars will kick off the international fixtures against Atlanta Falcons on Oct. 1 at Wembley Stadium.
